CGFNS International and Health Carousel Honor Franklin Shaffer With The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award

Philadelphia, Pa. (Dec. 4, 2022) – CGFNS International honored Franklin A. Shaffer, EdD, R.N., FAAN, FFNMRCSI, with a DAISY Lifetime Achievement award for his varied and impactful nursing career spanning more than 60 years. This award is regarded as one of the nursing profession's highest honors. Health Carousel, which works closely with the DAISY Foundation ^TM and CGFNS International, graciously sponsored the award for Dr. Shaffer.

The award presentation surprised Dr. Shaffer and the more than 150 colleagues, relatives, and friends attending his joyous retirement celebration organized by the staff of CGFNS at the historic Fairmount Water Works in Philadelphia. Bill DeVille, chairman and co-founder of Health Carousel, and Earl Dalton, the chief nursing officer of Health Carousel, made the formal presentation. The award included a beautiful DAISY Healer's Touch sculpture to commemorate the event. Health Carousel also sponsored a larger DAISY Healer's Touch sculpture that will sit atop a base with a plaque to commemorate the award.

Dr. Shaffer's long and storied impact on nursing is hard to adequately convey in brevity. In addition to serving as the CEO of CGFNS International, Dr. Shaffer serves as the Secretariat of the International Centre on Nurse Migration (ICNM), a strategic partnership between ICN and CGFNS International. He is also the former Deputy Director of the National League for Nursing, the accreditation organization for nursing education. Further, Dr. Shaffer made the business case for The Joint Commission to develop a certification for the healthcare staffing industry. This initiative has since grown to include over 400 healthcare staffing firms. And he is also a veteran who reached the rank of 1st Lieutenant and Head Nurse in the U.S. Army.

Dr. Shaffer's DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award is a capstone on a nursing career that positively impacted the lives of countless nurses and patients worldwide. In addition to this honorary, in August of 2022, he was named a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), the highest designation awarded by AAN.
